I heard about the Hello Fresh box subscription a while ago. I kept thinking that I needed to try it, but I never took the time to look into it and pull the trigger. Thanks to this blog and my new passion for subscription boxes, I decided to go for it. Now, I’m patting myself on the back for this decision.
I signed up for the family meal box. It feeds four (I have a family of six and it fed all of us with some left over) They also have a Classic box that feeds two. The family box is normally $80 for two meals, but I received $40 off on my box and was able to purchase this box for half price. The Classic box for two is $70 for three meals, which means you can try this box for $30. If you click my link at the end of this post for your trial Hello Fresh box, you will receive $40 off as well. (NOTE: If you want to cancel after your trial box you have a week to do so before you are charged for your next box)
I’m not a fan of super long intros, so lets jump in!
THE HELLO FRESH BOX
This box arrived at my doorstep in the morning. (You choose the day that you want your box to be delivered) I didn’t even know it had been delivered until my Mom came over in the afternoon and brought in the box.
My first reaction was, “Oh no, but how does this food stay fresh?” When I opened the box up and it felt like the inside of my freezer, it all made sense. Silly me!
This is what greeted me upon opening my Hello Fresh box. Inside was a thick insulated foil cushion and a packet of coupons.
And, at the bottom of the box are three very large ice packs keeping all of my lovely ingredients fresh! I should have figured that. The two boxes of food were on top of the ice pack and the meat products were under the ice packs.
You have a few choices in which meals you desire and I choose the Penne Arrabbiata and the Chicken & Chorizo Paella. Yum! I really was excited for these choices because I have never made either dish. One of the great aspects about this subscription box, is that I get to make meals I wouldn’t even have thought of making on my own.
The Chicken & Chorizo Paella box was the first I opened. It had every ingredient I needed all measure out to perfection.
The second box I opened had the Penne Arrabbiata. Pancetta and arugula sounded so delicious that we choose this dish to cook first!
The Hello Fresh box comes with a brochure that has beautifully illustrated and easy to follow recipes for each meal. This is another wonderful feature of the this subscription box. I found myself a lot more excited to cook when I could see the pictures and know I had such a great recipe to follow.
The edges are also perforated, so that you can easily store and organize your recipe cards for future.
The brochure also has a really gorgeous pic of the finished meal, which gives you something to aspire too! I don’t know about you, but I love pretty food!
Step 1: Prep! I boiled the water and chopped up all of my produce! So colorful right. Yum. (We left the pepper out because we had little tots eating the meal)
Step 2: Sauteed my pancetta, onions, and garlic.
Step 3: Boiled my penne.
Step 4: Added my tomatoes and seasoning to the sauce and let simmer while my penne was boiling.
Step 5: Added the penne and arugula to the sauce and tossed it all together.
Lastly, I sprinkled the parmesan cheese on top, cracked a little pepper on top and plated this gorgeous and very tasty meal!
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I am such a fan of this Hello Fresh Box. I have four little tots and going to the grocery store is no easy task. (It takes resolve and guts, if you know what I mean.) Hello Fresh took care of this for me. Meal planning is also very time consuming around here and again, Hello Fresh took care of this for me. I didn’t have to figure out what to make, gather the ingredients and measure it all out. All done for me!
On top of being super convenient, this was also a really fun experience. I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to cook dinner. I cooked a dish I had never made before and the outcome was fantastic. My husband and I thought the Penne Arrrabbiata tasted like it was restaurant quality. Even my kids liked it, (I did switch out the arugula for spinach on their plates) It was also easy to make, and now it’s a meal I can make again and again on my own!
I really did feel like I was on Top Chef and that’s never a bad thing for me!
