Hello Pettigrew Crew,

So excited to share my very first Play! by Sephora subscription box review and unboxing with you.

I was on the waitlist for months and I was so thrilled when I got off the bench and into the game. I have to admit, I was a little afraid that the box wouldn’t live up to all of the hype that was swirling around it, but I’m so pleased to report that I was not disappointed. I am very happy with my first Play! by Sephora box.

Let’s get to it!

I love the playful packaging so much. The black and white striped box is very cute and then when I opened it up, this sweet little cotton draw string bag was waiting for me inside. I mean, how adorable is this bag? You could reuse it in all kinds of ways.

IMG_7398bAlso inside the box is this awesome PLAY! PASS. This is a feature that really sets the Sephora Play box apart from any of the other beauty box on the market.

You bring your PLAY! PASS with you on your next visit to Sephora and you can sit with a beauty expert and get some great advice and tips on how to use all of the goodies that came inside of your box that month!

Along with this free beauty consultation, you also receive 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase that you make when you show the card.

Attached to the PLAY! PASS is this detailed brochure that folds out and is full of pretty pictures, info about the ingredients of each product, interesting fun facts and makeup, skincare and hair tips.

Again, I don’t know of another box that has so much info presented in such a beautiful format. You can also download the Sephora to Go app, which lets you scan any of the product images to learn even more about them. Pretty good stuff right?

This month’s theme is Forces of Nature. This means the box is full of natural products that perform beautifully and are good for you too. There are 8 samples all together: 4 deluxe samples, 2 vials and 2 foil masks.

In the box:

First up is Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Kimchi {full size is $26}

I adore this lipstick formula. It uses 12 edible oils including coconut oil and pomegranate oil. Even though this lipstick is matte, it’s not sticky and it’s actually hydrating to my lips. Also, the lipstick is very pigmented. A little goes a long way. It’s goes on so rich and creamy. It’s just beautiful.

The color is a bright hot pink and I know it’s not for everyone, but I love it. It’s perfect on my light golden brown skin tone and I know it would look amazing on a lot of dark and pale skin tones as well. I think if you really just don’t prefer a bold lip you wouldn’t like this color at all.

IMG_7478aNext is Tarte Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram {Full size $18}

I really like Tarte’s products and love that they are mineral based and soothing to the skin. This lip pencil has vitamin E which is so great to help prevent lips from drying out.

This shade is such a great compliment for various nude lipsticks. I have tried it with pink-y nude lipsticks and brown-y lipstick shades and it worked beautifully with both.

This sample size is so cute and fits in anything. {Samples are always so great for on the go, throw in the purse situations} The very fine point on this sample crayon give amazing definition and precision when lining your lips, but it’s a little trickier for using as a lip base under your lipstick. I imagine the full size liner has a bit of a wider tip.

IMG_7495aHere is the Korres Wild Rose Sleeping Facial {full size $48}

This is probably the lightest mask I have ever used. It feels more like you are putting on a thick lotion on your face than a mask. There is a slight tightening to the face that reminds me that it’s a mask, but it’s barely noticeable. This is definitely comfortable enough to wear over night, however I prefer to wear it during the day on a no makeup day. It makes my skin look great and I just like going to bed with nothing on my face.

It has wild rose oil which has vitamin C for helping even out your skin tone and improving the appearance of fine lines. Gotta love that!

It does have a mildly strong rose scent, which I think is pleasant, but I know not everyone will be a fan of.

IMG_7506aThis little packet from Origins has a Maskimzer spray, Drink Up Mask & Clear Improvement Mask {full sizes $22, $26 & $26}

The maskimzer is a little spray that, “preps, primes, and optimizes skin for mask to follow. It improves spreadability and rinseability of masks while hydrating, soothing, and boosting skin’s radiance immediately. Great for use with every type of mask except peel-off, it softens skin and boosts hydration levels.”

I had never heard of a pre-mask spray before, but I really like it. It has a nice refreshing feeling that feels like it has a slight tingle. I do feel like it improved my mask experience and added to the “spa day” quality of the mask. I’m a fan.

The Drink Up mask is awesome for dry skin like mine. It is so richly hydrating. I think it was my favorite of the 3 masks in this month’s box. It made my skin look bright and fresh and I have only good things to say about it.

The Clear Improvement mask goes on a lovely dark charcoal grey color all over my face and dried very tight. They give a warning to make sure to only leave it on for 10 mins and no longer or it can be drying to your skin. I made sure to follow these instructions because I have skin that can be slightly dry already.

After it rinsing it off, my skin was softer and looked better right away. Great mask and one I would buy again. If you’re a makeup lover like me, then it’s always great to have a mask that will keep your pores clear and unclogged.

IMG_7502aI love a good hair product and Briogeo’s Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask is so good. {full size $26}

The weather here in Cali has been quite hot already and my hair was tired and dry when I used this product. I noticed a big difference in how soft my hair was after using this product and it felt like it had more body and life.

It has argan oil and avocado oil in it, which are ingredients that are great for shine and getting rid of frizz. I have naturally curly hair, so this is music to my ears. I love that this product makes my hair look great and the ingredients are so natural and good for my hair as well.

The last product is Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine {Full size $110}

Like the name suggests, it is a very citrus-y scent. It is light, casual and pleasant, but it’s not a fragrance that I would gravitate towards. I probably wouldn’t pick this out for myself, but I will definitely wear it, and I enjoy having lots of scents on hand. This is a scent I would reach for when I was feeling playful I think.

IMG_7508aI do love that it came with this really cute post card in a little wax paper envelope. I am such a sucker for great packaging. It always adds to the experience of the box don’t you think?

Final Thoughts:

I am so thrilled that I am finally on the Sephora Play! beauty box team {the whole waiting list thing might be a bit annoying, but it’s brilliant strategy in my opinion} I loved this first box. It had a little of everything that I like and more than I was expecting.

I feel that Play! by Sephora is one of the best beauty boxes out there and I’m excited to see what comes this month. I think this box is such a great value for just $10, I mean that’s kind of amazing for all that you’re receiving.

What can I say, I loved the box {and bag}, the products and the experience. It’s a new star in my beauty box line up!
